Nadine King Mt. Carroll, IL Mixed Metals

I was born in British Columbia, Canada. I left there after graduation to travel the world and never did return. I traveled extensively through Europe, Asia, and Australia. During my many years in New Zealand I developed a fascination for Aboriginal, Maori, Polynesian, and other ethnic cultural art forms.

The time I spent in Hawaii further fostered this love though it was not until I met my now ex-husband, a jeweler, that I was able to put my delight with exotic cultures into metal and bead forms.

Upon settling in Florida, I got serious about my work. Now, living in Mt. Carroll, IL, I continue to make jewelry and also take workshops. I find much excitement and stimulation in working with other artists and learning new techniques.

I still very much love an ethnic look though I am partial to the contemporary with the concept of shell and form folding, never knowing exactly what will come out of the process is a never ending joy. I also prefer a clean and simple look. I use rare and unusual jaspers and agates. I try to put into each piece something exotic, colorful, or just pure fun.

Every piece of jewelry I make is inspired by my life of travels; the beauty of generous people, their cultures, their land, and their closeness to nature.
