Doug Reyonds • Waverly, IA• Stoneware

Reynolds Pottery and Arts is the name of my studio in Waverly, Iowa, and it is where I produce my functional stoneware pottery.

Most of my pots are thrown on a potter's wheel, but I also do some tile and non-functional work. The work is fired in a 24-cubic foot downdraft gas kiln.

Eight years ago I joined a partnership with three other area potters and together we built a 140 cubic foot wood burning kiln in the Galena, Illinois area.

The kiln site is available for tours and host visits by area high school art classes as well as students from the Chicago Art Institute.

Six years ago a group of nine potters started a pottery tour called Twenty Dirty Hands. The tour continues to take place the second weekend in October.

I teach pottery classes at the Hearst Center for the Arts and the Waterloo Center for the Arts and have been an artist in residence at several local high schools.

Each year I show and sell my work at numerous art festivals and galleries and put on workshops for schools and organizations.
