David Haessig Sarona, WI• Turned Wood

Inspired by the woods that surround his studio, David is a full-time woodworker in the North Woods of Wisconsin.

David began his career as a woodworker in 1976, building custom furniture. From there he started making sculptural and functional pieces and exhibiting his work at fine Art and craft Fairs around the country.

David laminates exotic and domestic hardwoods to create appealing functional forms.

Eventually he started using spalted woods harvested from the land around his studio and home.

The wood of lilac bushes is his specialty. Ever since David discovered the beauty of lilac, he has developed techniques for curing, drying and most importantly, shaping and sculpting this extremely hard and brittle wood into sculptural and functional pieces of art.

David finds that the spalted wood and the lilac challenge his potential and release his creativity by forcing him to develop new ideas and forms. David is one of the few woodworkers in the country that uses the wood from beautiful Midwestern lilac bushes.

David designs, creates and sells all the woodwork you see here. Each unique wooden piece is highly polished with a natural finish. They are made to enjoy and last for years to come.
